Israelite painters-caricaturists meet the challenge of international terrorists.

Now the war appears to be over… “The peace” came and missiles do not blown up now, and silence is set in. But I don’t feel coming back to painting. For sure that is why that I feel generating tension around our country terrifically as well as in the world as a whole. May be something like has been in last thirties of the last century when “the Evil” was on the way of countries, and it was simply underestimated, and its scale was not seen in time.
   During last month (the month of war) I drew only caricatures. More exactly I came to this decision after a week of military operations. This week I began draw a landscape sitting at my balcony – tremendous view!!! It is unclear how and why is possible making bad for no particular reason, when such a heaven around you and such a sun! And suddenly the WAR! It sounds surrealistically. And only sirens returned me “from the Heaven to the Earth with stable perseverance impelling to leave the brush in seeking a shelter. When it happens very often, you understand that it’s impossible to poetize the beauty because you are filled annoyed towards those who are hindering you to do it and LIVE! It is impossible not to draw sitting on your hands as well. The only way to do is drawing a caricature to comply with a request of the friend. And you understand that this one is exactly that you should do to express your attitude to the events! Of course you can’t change situation but you can influence opinions people on the other side of Israel.
     I live in Haifa and know what is “the war by eyes of peaceful inhabitant” by no hearsay because I was not away anywhere. It is feeling not for nervous. Imagine first days of the war when you do not know exactly what to do hearing the siren signal, because nobody knows it! And you are rushing about between TV and News sites in the internet seeking saving information. Instead you discover information of absolutely other type, namely: how the world as a whole (excluding America), and especially Russia (who might expect!) cries about disproportionate response of Israel and necessity of negotiations. But it happened to hear these slogans “Israel is aggressor” making frequent breaks due to bombings. And it happened to run headlong, and hide from those who were proposed to talk with at the time when they themselves were not going to negotiate!In the first day of Haifa bombardment we, inexperienced, ran out into the street seeking shelters just while explosion of missiles happened. But we were fortunate, in distinction of railway depot where the katyushas fell. The first bombardment of Haifa took away 8 lives. The nearest shelter appeared to be in our Haifa underground. There were not especially many people there, and all of them didn’t know what to do including workers of the underground. We spent there for 1.5 hours, didn’t received permission to leave and came back home. Taking into account correlation between the time of katyusha missiles flight and the time necessary to reach the shelter we took a decision to sit in the remote room with minimum o glasses or near the lift which is more stable and reliable. We heard about these recommendations of logistics within a pair of days. During a month of constant and repeated “training” our motions became accurate and polished, and an attitude itself towards alarms was periodically changed depending of the missile falling place – from even routine (if it is too far) till “quickly to the lift!!!” (when the missile fell on the adjacent street). And now feeling of full absence of protection became very strong! It seems that the next missile would fall on your head and feel yourself as you are on shooting. And then you check again in mass media to know WHERE?, WHO? and HOW MANY? And not only “katyushas” and other missiles “earth-earth” but the sirens itself killed. It’s a pity but such cases took place too.
     Briefly I refer that Palestinian terrorists were ready and tried to make terrorist acts in peaceful time as well as during the war. It’s necessary to thank our special services for the fact that war losses were not increased at the expense of terrorist acts inside the country.
    The attitude relative to our government was being also changed. If we initiated military operations in answer to capture of our soldiers and shooting north towns (which was the beginning in essence for those who do not know) so we respect our right for existence as each civilized people. But one entirely based question arises and not only one: What is the reason that military actions from the side of terrorist grouping Hizballa (for those who hesitates about its terrorist essence it’s necessary to read about the actions above and down), which were accompanied with purposeful extermination of peaceful population in first turn of Israel and in the second turn of Lebanon, have not been named by war during a very long time. Also why the special rule has not been introduced? If the town subjected to constant lethal attacks is not authorized with this status, then to which town is it authorized? Now I’ll try to explain. Practically no enterprise except vitally necessary organizations and enterprises functioned. And it is clear. All of us were ordered to be at home, and that’s right. Because only the lull set in and the people came out, terrorists beat with Russian katyushas on heads with sacrifices and victims. (at all I named the katyushas “From Russia with love”). That’s why people did not want to reach work places under shooting. But some bosses require it explaining that business suffers damage! So, special rule being introduced nobody could not require anything, this one, and the state is obliged to compensate their losses, this two. Because our town is one of biggest in the country the state saved on our businessmen. And also the citizen should be compensated for their losses and damage of property. This property was damaged on a big scale. Further, towns are under bombardment but people are not evacuated. Why? There are means and possibilities (Taxes are being paid by all of us, and they are immense). The reason is that no war and only military operations (see above). So there is no necessity to evacuate. Practically evacuation of peoples began only from the hottest points closer to the end of the war. How many lives may be saved! After all no safety room will not safe from the direct blow of the missile, furthermore in the absence of it. I don’t speak about technical side of the proceeding, in other words about readiness of municipalities (their services, shelters) for “lingering conflict”. Basically only those shelters were good that were willfully reequipped for offices and circles. Many of them were filled with rubbish or closed. Imagine that a woman together with two little babies is running from the flat on the 4 storey of an old house (which is ruining itself) to the center of the street for the shelter under wild howling of a siren. And it is closed! And they stood so. She was my friend out of Nesher. And these are not single cases. How many the aged became abandoned! And how many people who could not come out stuffy shelters practically for food due bombardment!
    But in the first turn they were abandoned by their government which is obliged to put at their disposal and organize everything according to its power! But kind people do really live in the world! Especially it is effective if kindness is supported with the post or possibility. In this case such things as food delivery, any recreation activity for people sitting inside 4 walls during a month, and raid removal of separate families are organized. I’d like to indicate at 2 (!) camps for refugees (notice, not evacuated, but refugees) which businessman Arkady Gaidamak organized – spacious tents, full board with nutrition 5 times a day, payment of telephone calls inside the country, as well as “outward”. Payment of one such a day is equal to half a million$. And how many days are in a month? There are a lot of rich people –millionaires, multi-millionaires. Only last year increased their number. And only he alone made that many others could make not saying about the government which appeared later on to use experience. And after the war, I am afraid this man can pay for his humanity. And those who did not stir a finger, will praise himself before relatives and repeat over and over of their huge income to the rescue of the north of the country and to head various commissions on investigating mistakes of the war which made themselves. In connection with it I remembered the fragment of miniature of the great actor Arkady Isaakovich Raikin: When the plant came to self-financing, director dismissed the yard-keeper and became sweeping floors by himself. When somebody made him remarks that he sweeps bad, he replied: “go and make complaints against the director”.
    What you have to say looking and listening the “world” where are scrolled many times the received from Lebanon cadres with small coffins which are dragged along streets during a whole day for bigger convincingness; or cadres with Lebanese child who was crawling on dead bodies of his parents in the course of a number of hours or days and who is brought out off the shock by Russian doctor who did not leave Lebanon where she resides more than ten years?.. Only one thing – the information war (as and the war itself) we have lost. Simply, it isn’t our rule (habits, mentality) to show to the whole world the horrible side of the war with dead and injured peaceful inhabitances and a lot of children among them. We don’t mock of dead people, we revere their memory. And good people (like this doctor) are everywhere, especially in the case that they settled and became intimate with this soil. The same situation takes place with humanitarian help which “the world” is sending also to Lebanon. And on the sly, together with trucks filled with this help, Syria and Iran try to deliver the next party of weapon for Hizballa which is not intended to disarm but is respecting in Lebanon. And when this traffic is cut short by Israelite air force, the whole world is shown the wicked Israelites and broken trucks with oranges. This approach with staging of window-dressing named “living shields” was very popular in Lebanon during this war. Everything was thought out beforehand and started to accomplish as soon as Israel came out from the South Lebanon in 2000 leaving Lebanon people in skillful hands of Hizballa. And the net of military communications under densely populated parts of the country (with special love towards schools and mosques) enlarged which was able instantly to convert a peaceful house into firing point on Israel. And again after notice about shooting of peaceful population by Israelite army terrorists succeeded to hide in their bunkers. At the same time Hizballa took care that peaceful population of Lebanon could not use this information in their goals, and afterwards showed those compassionate cadres after the blow which really was in answer. And they show PM of Lebanon Fuad Seniora who is crying by crocodilian tears about his people. It is not somewhat for males and particularly mismatches to the leader of his own country in front of other states. But who now looks to the etiquette!? It is so eastwardly, so cruel, and so simple, and very effective, especially in relation towards short-sighted and false humanism of European world which only encourages the terror by his actions. And why in fact no, if violence appeared non-punishable action!. And after us “the swallows” of terrorists should fly on Britain planes...
     And this only beginning. The European world or does not think or in general does not able to do it, or may be it makes closer the end of its dull fat life and so allows these “dolls” in the style Extreme. And at that time you can not get rid by simple removal to the center of the country where everything is quiet and usual. That is why usually lessons come out – as positive and negative. But they come out by those who are able to think and analyze. It’s possible to do it provided the correspondent part of a body does not overgrow with laziness, fat and well-being. It’s necessary to sharpen them permanently. And Hizballa made its resume. At present it not only simply gives money for people to restore (i.e. “the own father”), but also will rebuild schools and other educational institutions with payment of grants and scholarship. It’s easy to guess that it would be the prestige and WHAT they will study there. The goal is clear, there is money, any weapon is being invented permanently, the only thing to have is TIME.
     And we all shall continue sleeping further being touched for newly found peace and giving away parts of the country in exchange for “doubtful” peace, as it has already been in the sector Gaza. Expelling people from settlements, sensu stricto, to the street, as that ought to expect, gives Palestinians possibility to shoot by “kassams” on Sderot more precisely. To do it from Sector Gaza is more convenient. The volume of destruction is not too great, and our government and the whole world are accustomed to it. But only residents of Sderot and vicinities don’t seem it too little. Imagine that you walk along the street on which the stones are falling methodically day by day. Somebody would be struck, and is it peaceful life in peaceful time? And the government would continue to cry about a political victory (?) and considerable undermining of the enemy forces (it would be important to know his forces). Really no single goals which were formulated in the beginning of the war: liberation of captive soldiers without any terms, if no destruction of Hizballa, then its maximum disarmament and undermining of its infrastructure, safety of our north border, - are not achieved. That occurred because personal tiny interests are put above interests of the state and the whole people. And also it takes place because it goes continuous looking back to world’s public opinion. And for the time present the world’s public opinion does not understand which service we made for all of them executing the “black” work. Such a small country has the great significance. But we regret that the case is not finished to the end. Opinion of Israel was always bad, therefore one case else would be more! (victors need never). But if they say well, it would be the requiem. I like the 1 variant more because I simply will not hear the 2.
